Panel Discussion – The Balkans as a Future Global Hub of Creativity

The opening panel of Creative Day, titled “The Balkans: Future Global Hub of Creativity?”, brings together influential figures to discuss the potential of the Balkans as a leading global creative center. The panel will explore whether the region’s unique cultural history and emerging talent can serve as a “superpower” on the world stage.
With a rich and diverse heritage shaped by centuries of cultural exchange, the Balkans possess a distinct creative identity that has often been underrepresented on the global stage. However, in recent years, the region has seen a resurgence of innovative artists, entrepreneurs, and cultural leaders who are driving new opportunities for cross-border collaboration. This conversation will examine how these unique assets can be leveraged to establish the Balkans as a vital hub for creative industries, offering a platform for new ideas, partnerships, and global recognition. Through this discussion, the panel aims to inspire action toward building a sustainable and influential creative economy that connects the Balkans to the wider world.

● Jovan Marjanović – As the Director of the Sarajevo Film Festival, Marjanović is at the forefront of regional film culture, promoting Balkan cinema on an international stage. His insights into film as a vehicle for cultural exchange are invaluable for envisioning the Balkans as a creativity hub.

● Jon Zeff – UK Creative Industries Council, Lead advisor, Zeff has advised various clients, including major media companies and public authorities, and played a key role in developing and negotiating the Creative Industries Sector Deal, while also holding leadership positions at the Creative Industries Policy and Evidence Centre and the Sports Broadcast Monitoring Committee.

● Tihomir Bajić – Partner at XQ & FQV VC Fund and a seasoned Serbian entrepreneur, Bajić has a keen eye for fostering innovative projects. His work in venture capital highlights the role of investment in nurturing creative potential.
